Turning 1080 in a single swipe is not ideal in VALORANT.
Mouse sensitivity is, well, a very sensitive topic – some players will perform better with high sensitivity while others play great with super low sensitivity settings. At the end of the day, mouse sensitivity settings are a matter of preference and there’s really no ‘best’ one-size-fits-all setting that will turn you into a headshot machine overnight.
More experienced players will have no problem switching between both ends of the mouse sensitivity spectrum. TenZ, for example, will destroy most pub players regardless of the sens he is playing on a particular day. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for new FPS gamers.
With that said, there is a way to check whether your mouse sensitivity is too fast or too slow to the point where it’s impeding your ability to aim well in-game. We will show you how you can do just that in this quick guide.
Not too fast not too slow
Super-low sensitivities make a ton of sense in other tactical shooting games such as CSGO since most engagements happen around corners and players only really need to look away from pop-flashes most of the time.
The same cannot be said for VALORANT, where a hundred random things will fill up your screen at any given round. The newest Agent, Gekko, is a great example of an Agent that will have you swiping through your mousepad in an attempt to shoot down his cuddly friends. Mind you, that is just one of five Agents you’ll have to deal with at any given round in a match.
High sensitivity is a good idea in VALORANT, as it allows you to quickly flick your mouse on destructible utility and then flick back to various targets on your screen. Slow sensitivities can work well in long-range engagements where your aim adjustments are smaller, but they will hinder your ability to deal with enemy utility as they fly across the screen.
And then there are players with ultra-high sensitivities, where a millimeter change in mouse position instantly sends their crosshair spinning, making overshoots commonplace and long-range aim adjustments a nightmare.
So how do you find the right balance in VALORANT? It’s pretty simple.
Reddit user Azriel_Faust posted a short clip that explains the best way to find a base mouse sensitivity that works well for most situations in VALORANT.
In the clip, he suggests placing your mouse all the way to the left side of your mousepad and then swiping it horizontally to check how far your character has turned relative to mouse travel. If your character turned more than 360 degrees, you probably have an in-game sensitivity setting that’s too high.
Of course, your mousepad size is going to matter as well. Some players will be playing with a smaller mousepad than others, so they’ll naturally have a higher in-game sensitivity than others with larger mousepads.
With that said, sensitivity is always going to be a subjective topic, and this method should give you a nice base sensitivity that will allow you to aim smoother and improve your ability to deal with multiple targets regardless of whether they’re in front or behind you
Not Too Fast, Son
Take the method above as more of a suggestion rather than a gospel. If you’re a more advanced player, then there’s no reason to change your sensitivity based on the suggestion above and just stick with what already works for you.
On the other hand, beginners should eventually have an easier time aiming in VALORANT by turning down their in-game sensitivity relative to their mousepad size. However, try out the method outlined above and put a ton of time into The Range or Deathmatch to get used to the new sensitivity before you jump into a ranked match.
